Great idea for a thread!

I am currently a stay at home mom, for my daughter, Brigid age 2, and my son Noah age 10.  I have had a few careers in the medical field, the last one being a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse for 15 yrs.

I stopped working as a nurse when my husband and I got married in 2005, becasue we knew we wanted to try to have a baby and that my son really needed someone home with him after school.  My son has many diagnoses including ADHD and Bipolar disorder ( I adopted him as a single mom, he was a premie born to a lady who did cocaine, drank, smoked and had no prenatal care).  So after one round of infertility treatment, we were pregnant and after a high risk pregnancy, Brigid was born in Sept 06.

I am very busy with my family and taking care of my dad, and Jeff's parents.  Plus making sure Noah gets to all of his counseling sessions, dr apts, and does his homework on a daily basis is harder than any 12 hr shift in the ICU!

I plan to return to work in the home health industry after the holidays and work part time while Noah is in school.  I miss nursing and miss the babies alot.  I will work with babies that are taken home on various medical devices and help their parents take care of them.

My husband is a CPA who owns his own business, so we have a very flexible schedule and that is why it has worked out so well.

WOW...you adopted a baby when you were single.  I have to hand it to you not only do you have a big heart but a lot of guts.  Its a lot to take on by yourself.  I would be scared to take that on knowingly by myself.  Of course I did end up doing it on my own but not by choice.

Nice hearing about your life

So many of you have been married for a long time.  I envy you guys.  It must be nice to be in a long wonderful marriage (I'm assuming of course you are happily married).

I have bad judgement and have made bad choices in  my life.  I guess thats why I have been single for 11 years.  But I haven't given up one of these days I will find a good man and live happily ever after.  I just first have to learn to trust myself and men again.

Crystal:

There IS hope, let me tell you!  I was very similar to you when I was younger.  I was married the first time at 15 to a man that promised me the world.  We had me first daughter when I was 16 and his drug use, drinking, infidelity then cruelty caused me to take her and leave in the middle of the night when she was 6 months old.

I was alone with her until SHE met Todd at about 8 years old.  They were friends first.  (Long story.......)  In the end, I was not looking for a man, and she found him and he is truly my "soul mate".  It was definitely worth the wait, although I had to go through a lot of bad apples first.

Your perfect guy might just show up when you least expect it.  I give you tons of credit for raising your daughter and being able to send her to college.  You are doing a great job!

Tell someone that you love them!

Hi Robinhood -
What division of GE did you work for?  I worked for GEHC and then GE Instrumentation Services until our division was bought out about 2 years ago.

What a neat idea!

I am in my third or fourth career   I may have lost count along the way.  I spent 25 years as a home economist/family life educator field staff professional for the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service.  I served in the suburbs, Watseka and then in Peru.  Then my job was eliminated.

I substituted for 6 months at our local community college for a college professor who had a stroke.

Then I worked 8 years as a family life educator and counselor for Catholic Charities.  There I did parenting classes, counseling and abstinence education in the schools.  My job was eliminated after the grants that paid my salary were not renewed.  (Again, I was out of work)

I had a year's vacation thanks to unemployment while looking for another job and finally went with Office Max.  I am a Customer Service Representative.  I am on the computer/phones all day helping customers who call in with problems/orders/complaints and help solve their needs.  It is really interesting most days.  When there is a full moon I am ready to hide   Tomorrow is a full moon.    I also have a part time job with the American Correctivr Counseling Services.  I teach court ordered classes for people who have passed a bad check.  It is for first offenders only.  I have been doing this for about 4 years.  The company is based in California and I contract with them.  I have classes anywhere from 1 - 3 times a month.

At home, it is just me and my cats.  I have 2 adopted cats and 3 foster cats and a feral cat outside that adopted me a few years ago.  So at times the fur flies.

Let's see, I am married have been for 13 years, no kids unless you want to include my 6 dogs.  I haven't worked since 1999.  My mom got sick, sold us her house, and she now lives with us.  I take care of her, she has dementia.

Before 1999, I was a preschool teacher and a habilitation tech for a developmentally disabled group home.  I am looking forward to going back to work part time when I am all healed.
